Statistics show that 1 out 8 woman are diagnosed with breast cancer with a new diagnosis every 2 minutes.* A life is lost every 14 min to breast cancer with over 40,000 deaths this year alone.* Breast Cancer is the leading cause of death for women 40-55 years of age.* There are 85% of cases with women who have no genetic history of breast cancer.*

Now I will ask the question again...Did you know?
For those of you who didn’t know , Do I have your attention now?

Now its your turn. Ask your friends and family the following questions.....
When was your last breast exam? Do you know how to do a self examination and did you know you should do one every month? It has been recommended for women to start getting mammograms at the age of 40. Did you know that Breast cancer does not always lead to death especially when detected early? Only 5-10 percent of breast cancer cases are inherited.

There are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States, this is where my inspiration lies. Although the statistics are overwhelming. There are women that live with a very close and intimate encounter with breast cancer daily.

We as a society see beauty in many different ways. Do you have to have hair and makeup to be a beautiful person? No you don’t. Those are accessories to a person or and sometimes a shield for others. I see beauty as strength, courage, and love.

Strength, Courage, and Love?

What is strength? Strength is a state of being strong in a physical, emotional, and mental state with the ability to withstand pressure. Many people fight everyday with their own problems whether it be with a disease, raising children, fighting in wars, for just being a person.

What is courage? Courage is to do something that frightens one. Courage is a trait that many individuals fight with to order to overcome many difficult task that others are able to face without any problem. So what seems simple to one may seem like a very attractive trait to someone that finds it difficult. It takes courage to be who you want to be and not what other expect you to be or would like for you to be.

What is Love? Love is an intense feeling of deep affection with a great interest and please in something or someone. The beauty of love starts with you. You can cover yourself with nice clothes, a great hair style, and makeup; for women to make you feel beautiful. Are those things you do to make you feel beautiful in order to cover the insecurities that you have about yourself. Without loving yourself and being comfortable with who you are without any of those things, then who are you? Your beauty starts with the love that you have for you.

With beauty starting and ending with strength, courage, and love, I would like to say to all breast cancer saviors who are still fighting.
